Harborne is Professor and Head of the department of Botany (School of Plant Sciences) at the University of Reading, and is editor-in-chief of the international journal of plant biochemistry, Phytochemistry - Herbert Baxter, formerly at the Laboratory of the Government Chemist in London, is a consultant Information Scientist - Gerard Moss is a Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London. He works extensively on Organic Chemical Nomenclature for IUPAC, IUBMB, and BPC, as well as researching natural product chemistry.

Phytochemistry, herbology, ethnobotany, nutrition

This book breaks down the active ingredients found in plants we might chose to use in a home remedy.
My personal opinion is that no herbalist can honestly consider themselves sufficient in quality to meet a need or qualify as an herbal practitioner without this book as their guide.
Granted, it isn't covering every plant chemical, or every plant known to mankind up to date, but it should provide enough information for practical purposes used in the traditional herbalist lair.
However, this book is one of the best guides for the aspiring student of pharmacy, organic chemist and nutritionist.
I believe this book to be a treasure for a clearer understanding in ethnobotany as well.
I would recommend this book to anyone seeking an insider clarity of phyto-chemicals.

Perfect book for serious botanist

Perfect book for serious botanist! Very serious book, for very serious price! Information is detailed, each alkaloid is given 2D formula, brief description of action on human or livestock and plant where it can be found. Also very good reference: by latin name of plant you can quickly find all alkaloid it can contain and it which parts (roots, berries, leaves).
