About the Author
E.G. FOLEY is the pen name for a husband-and-wife writing team who live in Pennsylvania. They've been finishing each other's sentences since they were teens, so it was only a matter of time till they were writing together, too.

Like his kid readers, "E" (Eric) can't sit still for too long! A bit of a renaissance man, he's picked up hobbies from kenpo to carpentry to classical guitar over the years, and holds multiple degrees in math, science, and education. He treated patients as a chiropractor for nearly a decade, then switched careers to venture into the wild-and-woolly world of teaching middle school, where he was often voted favorite teacher. His students helped inspire him to start dreaming up great stories for kids, until he recently switched gears again and left teaching to become a full-time writer and author entrepreneur.

By contrast, "G" (Gael, aka Gaelen Foley) has had one dream all her life and has pursued it with maniacal intensity since the age of seventeen: writing fiction! After earning her Lit degree at SUNY Fredonia, she waited tables at night for nearly six years as a "starving artist" to keep her days free for honing her craft, until she finally got The Call in 1997. Today, with millions of her twenty-plus romances from Ballantine and HarperCollins sold in many languages worldwide, she's been hitting bestseller lists regularly since 2001. Although she loves all her readers, young and old, she admits there's just something magical about writing for children.

Fantasy Reader
By Donnie
I've read both books in this series and look forward to the third. Growing up in the 50's I developed a passion for reading. Everything I read had to do with Science Fiction. There were no books for kids my age dealing with Fantasy Fiction. Now as a senior citizen, (I'm 62), I thoroughly enjoy treading this type of book. It gives my mind a chance to escape the realities of life and look into someone else's mind. Good read for this age bracket for where it is directed. A little fantasy never hurt anyone as long as it can be kept in perspective and realize it is only fantasy.

Lagged a bit in the middle
By Thismomentisfate
The first book was amazing. But this 2nd one, i was struggling to finish. I think its because some of the characters are not that interesting. The first one focused one Jake and Derek. We find out Jake is the Heir of a fortune, and that he has a castle. Derek is character that fiercely wants to protect Jake. The story focused on Jake learning his powers, and figuring out who killed his parents.

Now we are at the second book, and we are focused on other characters, on Dani the best friend, Archie the weak scientist cousin. Isabelle the perfect, kind and sweet girl that can talk to animals. And the two siblings that guard that kids, they can turn into animals. But they dont do much other than nag at the kids. And blame Jake for EVERYTHING that the other kids do, as if he is magically in control of them.

The story starts out okay as they are on a trip to a Invention Convention. And then they introduce the giant, a character i didnt particularly like, he was scared and complaining all the time. The main story suddenly consists of Jake helping this Giant romance someone and help him become king. what????

And also to stop some wayward god Loki, from taking over the world with Giants. Anyway, im halfway through, and struggling to read the rest. This never happens. I love reading, and once im hooked, i want to finish until the end, and the first book really did hook me. But this one? not really.

EDIT:
I decided to give the book another shot, and i did end up enjoying it, so i changed my review from 2 stars to 4 stars. After they meet the giant the story does lag a bit, but it picks up once they reach giant land. so give this book a shot, its worth it!

One thing that bugged me was that Derek knew jake was in trouble, but he chose his guardian duties over helping out his best friends son. Which i found very odd, and out of character. you'd think he would be scared of something happening to jake like his parents.

From Publishers Weekly
Is death the end of this existence, as some scientists seem to assume? Fontana, a British psychologist and fellow at Cardiff University, thinks not. In this manual, he marshals studies and other evidence to demonstrate the persistence of unexplained phenomena that point to the likelihood of life after death. In systematic fashion, Fontana plows through chapters on parapsychology; apparitions and visions of ghosts; hauntings (where apparitions are seen by more than one person in the same place over a long, continuous period); the history and nature of mediumship; different kinds of mediums; electronic voice phenomena; near-death experiences; out-of-body experiences; and reincarnation. Throughout, he includes case studies of alleged paranormal events from around the world, and also describes some of his own experiences, including a local Cardiff poltergeist he investigated from 1989 to 1992, and a medium who seems to have communicated with Fontana's deceased mother. It's clear that Fontana believes that many claims to the paranormal are true and that they provide credible evidence that a soul or spirit survives beyond physical death. Still, his tone is a bit more balanced than other paranormal apologetic texts. The book is indeed "comprehensive," as the subtitle indicates, and it is organized well enough that readers can easily skip to the chapters or sections that interest them rather than slogging through each chapter sequentially, since the writing can be overly detailed.

'Scholarship, personal experience and high quality always show. This highly accessible, detailed and authoritative book will become a classic. After reading it and assessing the evidence, there can no longer be any doubt that there is life after death. a long overdue book
By Michael E. Tymn
Since becoming interested in psychical research some 15 years ago, I have accumulated a library of more than 1,000 books dealing with mediumship, channeling, near-death experiences, death-bed visions, apparations, past-life regressions, and every other aspect of the paranormal. This book is without a doubt the most comprehensive overview of the entire field that I have encountered.

The author is a professor of Transpersonal Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University in Great Britain and a past president as well as current vice-president of the Society for Psychical Research. Professor Fontana examines everything from the mediumship of the Fox Sisters of the 1800s to the recent

Scole experiments, including such famous cases as Patience Worth, Margery, the R-101 disaster, the cross-correspondences, to name just a few. He looks at the mediumship of Leonore Piper, Gladys Osborne Leonard, Eileen Garrett, Geraldine Cummins and many others.

So many of the earlier books present a one-sided view of various phenomena, but Fontana presents both sides, turning the evidence inside out and upside down, leaving no stone unturned. I had just recently reread a book about the mediumship of Mina Crandon, the medium in the sensational "Margery" mediumship of 1920s. I finished the book not knowing what to believe as there was strong evidence for Crandon being a gifted medium, but there was also some evidence suggesting fraud. The fact that the distinguished researcher, Dr. J.B. Rhine, was one of those concluding she was a charlatan made me lean toward that conclusion, even though I was mystified as to how so many other scientific examiners could have been duped. After reading Fontana's thoughts on the case, I am now back to believing that Crandon was a true medium, although she might have been a mixed-medium, i.e., one who occasionally cheated to please her audience when no phenomena manifested. There also seems to be the possibility that many of the mediums deemed cheaters were in fact sabotaged by malevolent spirits.

As Professor Fontana says, the question of whether or not our consciousness survives bodily death is without a doubt the most important facing us. For most religions, faith alone is seemingly all that is necessary. Perhaps that is the reason we have so much turmoil in the world today. Faith is not enough. We need conviction. That is what this book offers.

Certainly the best, single volume on this subject
By Jeffrey Mishlove
Professor David Fontana's book is certainly the best, single volume available today on the question of survival after death. It is written from the perspective of one who accepts that the available evidence does, indeed, point toward the existence of an afterlife. But, he did not come to this conclusion easily. He carefully weighs and balances all of the available competing arguments. And, he also acknowledges that, even after 150 years of investigation, the evidence is not scientifically complete. In fact, he does not hesitate to share the frustrations of researchers working in this field.

At one point, when discussing a particularly frustrating situation (George Meek's "Spiricom," at one time an excellent source of ITC data, that ceased functioning) he cites William James, who suggested "the Almighty may have decreed that we are never going to receive the final element of proof for which survival researchers have been looking, and that Spiricom was in danger of giving this proof."

As a past president of the British Society for Psychical Research, the oldest organization in the world continuously devoted to exploring the question of human survival, Fontana is eminently qualified to write about this subject. (Within the last few weeks I, myself, have joined this organization - upon learning about their excellent online library.) Fontana is also a specialist in the areas of EVP (electronic voice phenomena) and ITC (instrumental transcommunication) that are now a particular interest of mine. See my earlier blog on White Noise. I am inclined to think that if this area continues to show progress, as it seems to be doing, than it will - indeed - result in the major breakthrough that survival researchers have been seeking for 150 years.

Regular readers of my blogs will know that I have been fond of an alternative hypothesis that I call "archetypal synchronistic resonance." I think that it may have the potential to sufficient explain the existing data for human survival after death, without actually requiring an afterlife.

There is currently another alternative hypothesis, known as Super Psi. The tricky question here, from a philosophical perspective, is that there is no test that can absolutely distinguish between "survival" and "super psi." This is why many parapsychologists have simply stopped considering the question of survival after death. Nevertheless, Fontana does an excellent job of looking at the Super Psi hypothesis and showing why it seems highly implausible as an explanation in many of the cases he cites. In general, I am convinced by his arguments.

However, I am not yet convinced that "archetypal synchronistic resonance" would be so easily dismissed. But, there is no blame that David Fontana does not address my alternative explanation. The argument in behalf of "archetypal synchronistic resonance" has yet to be made in any academic journals (although one paper has been submitted). In fact, to date, my blogs on the subject are probably the most extensive place in which the topic is discussed.

Very Thorough and Informative
By E. Lipinski
Dr. Fontana's presentation is well suited to inform both the

experienced and new readers of the vast amount of research that

has already been undertaken in this area. I particularly liked

the way he presented the pros and cons of the various hypotheses

forwarded to explain the various phenomena. This is an excellent

introduction to the myriad facets of this fascinating subject.

You Are Not So Smart: Why You Have Too Many Friends on Facebook, Why Your Memory Is Mostly Fiction, and 46 Other Ways You're Deluding Yours

An entertaining illumination of the stupid beliefs that make us feel wise.

You believe you are a rational, logical being who sees the world as it really is, but journalist David McRaney is here to tell you that you're as deluded as the rest of us. But that's OK - delusions keep us sane. You Are Not So Smart is a celebration of self-delusion. It's like a psychology class, with all the boring parts taken out, and with no homework.Based on the popular blog of the same name, You Are Not So Smart collects more than 46 of the lies we tell ourselves everyday, including:

  • Dunbar's Number - Humans evolved to live in bands of roughly 150 individuals, the brain cannot handle more than that number. If you have more than 150 Facebook friends, they are surely not all real friends.
  • Hindsight bias - When we learn something new, we reassure ourselves that we knew it all along.
  • Confirmation bias - Our brains resist new ideas, instead paying attention only to findings that reinforce our preconceived notions.
  • Brand loyalty - We reach for the same brand not because we trust its quality but because we want to reassure ourselves that we made a smart choice the last time we bought it.

Brilliant, entertaining and useful
By Timothy Miller
I'm a clinical psychologist interested in neuroscience, so much of this material was already familiar to me. Most of the ideas can be found scattered through other books like The Winner's Curse, The Happiness Hypothesis, Predictably Irrational, and others. I've read and admired all of those. I would gladly throw them all away if I could keep You are Not So Smart.

The author understands the science and the facts, and conveys them quite clearly. I didn't find a single error. He writes wonderfully. Crisp, clear, funny, casual, but not too casual. When I read it, I feel I'm chatting with a brilliant buddy. As I understand it, the author is not a professor or scientist. He's certainly smart enough to be one.

In the 1970s and early 1980s, research psychologists generally believed that humans are more or less rational, most of the time. They believed that irrational thinking was caused primarily by disruptive emotions like anger or fear. We now know this is just plain wrong. During the last twenty years or so, research evidence against this view accumulated. Daniel Kahneman became the first psychologist to earn a Nobel Prize for describing the new understanding.

Meanwhile, evolutionary psychology provided a new template for understanding the human mind. It evolved. We often see faces in clouds, but never see clouds in faces. We sometimes mistake a coiled garden hose or rope for a snake, but rarely mistake a snake for a garden hose. These tendencies, and many others like it, reflect our evolutionary history. The reproductive cost of jumping away from a coiled garden hose is very small. The reproductive cost of failing to recognize a dangerous snake is very high.

You do not think rationally, nor does anyone else. This is useful information, particularly if you have some understanding of how and why you -- and others -- think irrationally, and under what circumstances. It may seem too good to be true, but this book actually explains it to you, and does so entertainingly.

Even today, most economists believe that humans make rational economic choices. This is clearly false. Daniel Kahneman (and his collaborator, Amos Tversky) won their Nobel Prize, not in psychology -- there's no Nobel Prize category for that, but in economics. You ever wonder how we got stuck in this awful Great Recession, despite the brilliant insights of modern economists? It's because they are all wrong. This book will help you understand that better, while making you smile, laugh and nod your head with "Aha!" insights along the way.

Many psychotherapists believe, even today, that Sigmund Freud and his intellectual descendants correctly described "the unconscious." They believe that our childhood experiences, particularly psychosexual experiences, form the emotional and behavioral templates for the rest of our lives. We now know that most mental life is indeed unconscious. However, the templates of our mental lives were formed more by our common evolutionary history than our particular childhood experiences. That's why cognitive biases are human universals. If idiosyncratic childhood experience was the more important source of thinking templates, the cognitive biases described in You are Not So Smart would not be so robust and numerous.

You want to know yourself? Spending your life contemplating your potty training might help a little... or might not help at all. This book will help a whole lot more.

If you want to know yourself, start by studying your blind spots. Oops. Too bad. You can't find them with introspection because they are... blind spots! Good news, your blind spots are the same as other people's blind spots. They are human universals. So you can learn about them by studying all the recent scientific discoveries about human thinking, particularly all its irrational and unconscious features. The universal, irrational and unconscious landscape of human thinking is the topic of this book.

I previously described two well-known and rather obvious features -- faces in clouds versus clouds in faces and snakes versus garden hoses. This is very useful information.

Clouds vs faces: All humans have an "agency detection bias. We presume that things happen for reasons and that most things happen because an intelligent agent made them happen. Hence, ummm... Oh, I remember... Religion??!! Knowing this, next time a natural disaster occurs in a sinful city, you might be a little less inclined to attribute the event to an angry god. You might also recall that all cities are sinful.

Snakes vs. garden hoses: All humans have a hyper-sensitive immediate-danger-detector. The vast majority of alarms are false alarms. Not many citizens of industrialized nations die of snake bite, but many die or suffer from excessive worry and pointless fears. Understanding how false danger alarms work, you might be more able to live long and prosper.

Please excuse the irony. As I recall, the author does not actually discuss agency detection or danger detection bias. These are merely convenient examples of universally human cognitive biases that occurred to me was I was writing this review. They are easy to explain and intuitively obvious. You are Not So Smart discusses forty-eight others. He's chosen many of the really important and interesting phenomena. The list grows as research accumulates, and he probably didn't have room for all of them. Good news, he publishes periodic updates on his blog.

This book has a high speed to weight ratio. Every chapter describes a universal human cognitive bias, easily recognizable in your own experience. Chapters are just a few pages each. They do not need to be read in sequence. Though not simplistic, a smart eight grader could understand most of them; no scientific or psychological background is necessary. Yet these phenomena are not generally known, even by "smart" people. Thanks to this book, word will soon be getting around.

Broad Overview of Cognitive Biases, Shortcuts, and Fallacies
By Book Fanatic
This is a good book. It's easy to read and can be read in small bite-sized chunks or in several long sessions. There are 48 different cognitive biases, shortcuts, and logical fallacies described in the book. They each take about 5 pages or so. Within each section the author does an excellent job of describing each problem. He references several studies for each and is generally very up-to-date on the latest work.

As an introduction or description to the ways we are irrational this book works very well. I consider myself pretty widely read in this area and still I found some new ideas or studies in this work. I would think that someone new to the topic would be utterly fascinated by it. While this book is well written as narrative it also would server as an excellent reference because of the many short chapters.

The only thing that I think would have made the book better would have been to put more effort into highlighting how you can avoid the biases. Certainly being aware of them helps and this book goes a long way toward that goal. The author does make some small suggestions at the very end of many chapters but they seem like an afterthought. But that is my only real criticism.

If you are interested in the ways that we aren't "the rational animal" this book is easily recommended. It is quite well done. For people new to the subject I can very highly recommend it as an introduction to the topic.

accessible but maybe too much so
By Michael J. Amos
McRaney is attempting to show us all that behind the thin veneer of our civilized brain, lurks an animal brain that is far more whimsical and powerful than we give it credit for, than our logical brain often does little more than make excuses for behavior it can't predict or control. He does so by examining a variety of behaviors from cold reading to brand loyalty to racism. He conducts his examination be compiling peer reviewed articles from psychology and medical literature.

I give McRaney credit for making the material accessible but I can't say the same about making it interesting. It's incredibly, painfully obvious that the book is little more than a collection of blog posts; the short chapters don't quite run two pages while long ones clock in around ten. Additionally, I feel like the concepts he covers are already in the public eye, available for more complete examination and occasional satire. Finally the author does nothing with the information. No tips for catching yourself in a behavior are suggested, it seems he simply acknowledges the behaviors with an indifferent shrug. I could accept this if McRaney was doing some amount of original work or thought but that's not the case.

The way I most often described this book as I read it was "It's not bad, it's not good, but it's not bad."

ADDENDUM: I later read Thinking, Fast and Slowand recommend that as a far superior book on similar material.

St. Teresa Margaret Redi was a Carmelite captivated by the love of God. Helping us to appreciate the holy life she led are eyewitness accounts of her spiritual directors collected soon after her death. The author of this small study builds his story on those accounts by the Discalced Carmelite friars who knew her as a young religious. Father Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalene lays out clearly the steps in Saint Teresa Margaret's spiritual biography and how she developed her deep attachment to love for God, by using classic Carmelite doctrine about growth in the spiritual life.

Teresa Margaret Redi was an Italian daughter of Saint Teresa of Jesus who lived in the eighteenth century (1747-1770). Like Saints Therese of Lisieux and Teresa de los Andes after her, her life in Carmel was brief. Her canonization came early in the last century (1934) and only now are we coming to appreciate better the spiritual legacy she left behind. This summary study by a noted spiritual theologian is a useful companion to the fuller biography of Margaret Rowe, God is Love: Saint Teresa Margaret, Her Life (ICS Publications, 2003).

The translator was Editor of Spiritual Life Magazine when he issued this work for Spiritual Life press originally in 1965.

A good companion to the biography of this Saint
By MOR200
A good companion book to read after her biography. I loved both very much. I didn't know much about this saint who is very similar to St. Therese, The Little Flower, in her spirituality and heroic love and virtue.

A short, pleasant book about a saint that's easy to love
By Shannon J. Behrens
I finished this as part of my Carmelite reading.

St. Teresa Margaret Redi was a Carmelite captivated by the love of God. She had a profound mystical experience that lasted about 3 days in which she felt intimately connected to God. After that was an extremely painful period of spiritual dryness where she felt that she could not love God to the degree that she wanted or that He deserved. She died at the age of 22. She was extremely anxious to experience union with God in heaven.

This is a very short, nice book. At a mere 92 pages, it was a nice distraction from Sister Faustina's diary which I've been reading for about a year ;) St. Teresa Margaret is a favorite saint among Discalced Carmelites, and it's easy to see why.

The Holocaust: The Third Reich and the Jews, by David Engel

This new Seminar Study presents a straightforward, matter-of-fact analysis of the encounter between the Third Reich and the Jews. David Engel sets out to clarify the basic facts and to explore the possible reasons why 5.8 million European Jews died in its course. As with a murder investigation, he sifts the evidence relating to motives, means and opportunities for the killing of European Jewry. In the process he raises some vexatious and sharply contested questions: Why was it a German government that perpetrated the mass murder? What led that government to the conclusion that all Jews had to die? Could the murder have been prevented or its scale reduced had victims or bystanders acted differently?

SEMINAR STUDIES IN HISTORY
General Editors: Clive Emsley & Gordon Martel

"Seminar Studies in History...provide a means of bridging the gap between specialist articles and monographs and textbooks. They are written by acknowledged experts on the subject who are not only familiar with current thinking but have often contributed to it. Their format, well-tried and effective, combines information, analysis and assessment effectively. The selections of documents, included from the outset of the series when document work was hardly in vogue in schools, not merely illustrates points made in the text but provides an effective medium for discussion on the issues raised. The further reading guide has stimulated countless students to take their interests further. The structure of the series may not have changed through time but the format has, with attractive four-colour covers and larger pages....Seminar Studies are still, despite all the opposition, a market leader."
Teaching History
________________________________________________________________________

This new Seminar Study presents a straightforward, matter-of-fact analysis of the encounter between the Third Reich and the Jews. David Engel sets out to clarify the basic facts and to explore the possible reasons why 5.8 million European Jews died in its course. Rejecting the notion that the Holocaust must be approached with awe and trembling, the volume examines the documentary record that historians have been studying for over fifty years and outlines the problems and disagreements scholars face in interpreting it.

Like a murder investigation, the book sifts evidence relating to the motives, means, and opportunities for the killing of European Jewry. In doing so it raises some vexatious and sharply contested questions: Why was it a German government that perpetrated the mass murder? What led that government to the conclusion that all Jews had to die? Could the murder have been prevented or its scale reduced had victims or bystanders acted differently?

The main text is supported by some newly translated source material in the Documents Section and a range of additional tools including a glossary of terms, a bibliography, a chronology of the main events and four detailed maps. Wonderfully written, David Engel's book is a taut, compact narration that appeals to the intellect as much, if not more, than to the emotions. It is sure to be welcomed by students in departments of History, Politics and European Studies as well as by anyone trying to get to grips with this complex and far-reaching subject for the first time.

SEMINAR STUDIES IN HISTORY
General Editors: Clive Emsley & Gordon Martel

Seminar Studies in History...provide a means of bridging the gap between specialist articles and monographs and textbooks. The structure of the series may not have changed through time but the format has, with attractive four-colour covers and larger pages....Seminar Studies are still, despite all the opposition, a market leader.

Compact and Concise History
By George
This Holocaust study is perfect for those who research the facts and figures of the period. Engel does an excellent job in his timeline sequencing. This book is perfect for the college student or for any serious researcher of the Nazi regime. At the same time, this work isn't six hundred pages of hard labor. It's compact and comprehensive. It can be read in a very short time and referred to with ease.

The Bluegrass Conspiracy: An Inside Story of Power, Greed, Drugs, and Murder, by Sally Denton

When Kentucky Blueblood Drew Thornton parachuted to his death in September 1985 carrying thousands in cash and 150 pounds of cocaine, the gruesome end of his startling life blew open a scandal that reached to the most secret circles of the U.S. government. The story of Thornton and The Company he served, and the lone heroic fight of State Policeman Ralph Ross against an international web of corruption, is one of the most portentous tales of the 20th century.

From Library Journal
Denton, a former investigator for Jack Anderson, relates a sordid tale of corruption in Lexington, Kentucky. Among the major players were Governor John Y. Brown; his top political aides; former policeman and blueblood Andrew Thornton, the leader of an organization known as the "Company"; and other bluebloods, rich from money originally earned in horse-breeding and racing. Ralph Ross, a Kentucky state policeman who began a crusade to catch Thornton and his associates, was eventually forced out by being framed in an illegal wiretapping charge. Yet ultimately press coverage exposed the conspiracy. A labyrinthian tale, made complex by its mix of "good guys" and "bad guys," this will be of interest to libraries with large true crime sections. Recommended.

Review
"A larger than real-life thriller." -- The Wall Street Journal

About the Author
Sally Denton is an investigative reporter, author, and historian who writes about the subjects others ignore--from a drug conspiracy in Kentucky to organized crime in Las Vegas; from corruption within the Mormon Church to the hidden history of Manifest Destiny; from one of America's bitterest political campaigns to the powerful forces arrayed against Franklin D. Roosevelt. She has an extensive background in print and broadcast journalism, including newspapers, magazines, and television, and is the author of eight books of narrative history and investigative nonfiction. While the subjects of her books at first glance seem disparate, they are actually unified by a central theme of the exploration of subjects in American history--and especially in the American West--that have been neglected or marginalized. What she has done in her 30-year career is to explore the unmentioned truths about America--what the eminent scholar Daniel Boorstin called "Hidden History." She is a Guggenheim fellow, a Woodrow Wilson public scholar, a Hoover Institute Media Fellow, a Black Mountain/Kluge fellow, the recipient of two Western Heritage Awards, and has been inducted into the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame. She is a fourth generation Nevadan, where she began her journalism career in 1976, and is a longtime resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Intrigue and Deception
By Jeff Mosley
Sally Denton has written a book that this Kentuckian would have never thought possible! By examining what starts out as a simple rogue Lexington cop, she (through the work of a Kentucky State Trooper) follows a trail that leads to an exposure of absolute corruption. What one would think is a simple drug peddling ring turns out to have significant connections with South American governments, Quadaffi, major players in the Kentucky government, and a potential presidential candidate. This book in intriguing from the first sentence to the final page. I highly recommend it to anyone.

It is an interesting read on how things were here in Kentucky back in the day.
By sherwilson @ Simply Sherryl
I grew up in the local area during the time frame covered by this book. It is pretty spot on in history and political positions.

Although what actually happened to Drew is still in question to some, this book gives a good overview of the time frame and the people involved. Money, drugs and all the expected ill gains were a big part of Kentucky history.

I thought it was an interesting read especially since I know of and knew personally several of the people written about in the book.I think some of the details could and should have been elaborated on, but the author had her story to tell not mine.

It is an interesting read on how things were here in Kentucky back in the day.

Truth is more scary than fiction!!
By Ron H
This was to replace an old paperback version of the book, probably 1995 or thereabouts. Great story, and very well researched. However, it could have been better written. It is difficult to go from a live TV news reporter to actually putting the words on paper, and she had a bit of trouble. However, I would recommend it.
