It keeps getting better!

More Than Anything continues the saga of Sage and Derek. No longer homeless and singing for their meals, they’re now faced with an even bigger set of challenges: surviving the music business, the stress of a long distance relationship, serious family drama, and a possible alternative love interest for Sage.

This book kept me up until 4:00 in the morning. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. The ending was a total shocker. I literally felt my jaw drop as I read the last sentence.

Can’t wait to read book three to see what happens next!

More Than Anything - Book 2 of the Triology

RE BLake continues his YA/NA romance trilogy with "More Than Anything", the story of two teenagers who meet and travel together to a national TV talent show in which Sage, whose voice is telling the story, is the winner. This book picks up right away after "Less Than Nothing", with Sage and Derek agreeing to meet each other in New York, where Derek has landed a recording deal, although not as lucrative or prestigious as Sage's in San Francisco. Book 2 details the difficulties of getting a recording made, the people who Sage doesn't know whether to trust or not and of course, her struggle to get back to NYC to take her relationship with Derek to the next level. Blake has brilliantly crawled inside the mind and heart of Sage to show her angst with her growing love for Derek, and how much her life has changed since winning the talent contest. I love this story; it gets better as Sage must grow up a lot quicker than she ever imagined. She has to make decisions about her career, family and friends that leave her confused and on an emotional roller coaster. Honestly, had it not been for Book 1 an Book 2 in this series, I would not now be seeking out other YA/NA/CR books to read. There are some strong voices in this genre and RE Blake is the pack leader. I completely recommend this book to all ages of readers. There isn't a false step here, as the language, emotions and reactions of the characters are completely in sync with today's young people. Can't wait for the final book in the trilogy. Thanks for sharing the ARC with me, Mr. Blake.

R.E. Blake has another hit!

R.E. Blake does it again! I couldn't put this book down. The writing was flawless bringing all emotions into play. The story picks up right where the first book left off with Sage and Derek. Sage is now living her dream even though she keeps waiting for it to dissolve right before her eyes. We see her maturing and accepting she has to work hard to make it in the music business. Her feelings for Derek keep growing and she wants to do everything to be with him. Sage now has to deal with a long distance relationship, meeting new people she has to trust will guide her career in the right path, and deal with personal grief. Will she hang on to Derek, or give him up for her music career? There are twists and turns in the story that had me feeling like I was living the story right along with Sage and Derek, but the ending was an unexpected cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next installment.

I'm a successful middle-aged executive who learned a lot of Office Politics the hard way. However, even I learned a lot of new things in reading it. This book is a must for women who want to succeed in the corporate world and it will definitely help men, too. Steele tells it like it is and will win no awards for political correctness. I wish I'd had this book when I was 25.

As a father of two daughters I'll ensure they get this book and understand its philosophy to survive in any corporation or small business. This is a how-to manual, anchored on a sound, practical and inventive approach to more than survival for women in any office situation. Survive, thrive and prosper is the message - and the power comes with that.
Not a sensitive and delusional New Age guide, this is a book that attacks the issues bluntly, examines them and offers practical and creative solutions for men, as well as women. Simple, direct and unshakeable solutions that work.
If you are a woman, pack it with your cosmetics. If you are a man buy it anyway and share the information with your women friends. Everyone wins.

THE book on how to suceed in the corporate world for women

Not for those wishing to believe in fairy tales, "Office Politics" shoots straight from the hip and offers young women who wish to work in the high-paying corporate sector plenty of excellent advice on what the workplace is really like and how to maneuver in it to their best advantage. I have never read anything as honest as "Office Politics"---it also includes an excellent bibliography of other must read books.
"O.P." is essential for any woman wishing to enter or re-enter the corporate world---however, it is not "politically correct", which makes it all the more effective as a tool for moving up in the "real world". Overall, it's the best book I have ever read on strategies for working women.

Great start, but let me down

I was intrigued by the title, author, and, frankly, the free download and the prospect of making a discovery. The first half of the book really engaged me so much that I was sure that I wanted my wife to read it immediately after I finished. King Midas is a turn of the 20th century upper-class period piece a la James and Wharton with very sympathetic characters, initially highly absorbing plot-situations and a lovely lyrical style with many classical music and Romantic German poetic allusions. I initially felt that this was a highly readable and terrific undiscovered prize.
Unfortunately at about the halfway point, Sinclair, for me, seems to lose inspiration and control as his main character becomes preachy and ponderous, at truly undue length, on his theories of religion and love and duty -frankly, after a while, tedious. The denouement becomes overheated, melodramatic and a little desperate; the final pages seem something of a disappointing copout. However, the first half absolutely engaged me for which I certainly recommend your, perhaps, giving King Midas a go.

This is the story many would like to read -- how a self-avowed atheist working as a journalist for the Chicago Tribune not only converted to Christianity, but became a minister. This book -- and particularly Chapter 9 -- provides the answers.
The book is written as a how-to book which allows others to lead their "Unchurched" friends (a term first coined by the Gallup polling agency) down the same path. In this fashion, the author covers all of his former objections to Christianity along with the factors that eventually changed his mind.
The author's journalistic skills are in evidence throughout the book -- the reader will find it difficult to put the book down until it is completely finished. Both Christians and non-Christians will find the book enlightening, interesting and enjoyable.

Good Illustration of Incarnational Ministry

The title of this book lets you know that it is a study of the mindsets of those who don't claim to follow Christ. It does an excellent job of fulfilling that objective. The author is a former skeptic who, through the influence of his wife came to faith in Christ. So, the book is a mixture of teaching and testimony. He teaches us what the unbeliever is thinking and illustrates it with his own life story. He doesn't limit himself to his own story but illustrates his points with stories from many others he has known.
Christians often speak of the ministry of Jesus as "incarnational" - where He became one of us. He became like us to save us. Strobel's book gives some good advice for how Christians can do the same. We often seek to evangelize without understanding our audience.
I would caution that this book does make sweeping generalizations. Rather than pigeon-holing every unchurched person you meet and thinking you understand them because you have read this book, you can simply take the time to listen and get to know the person as an individual, and see where God leads you. This would be "Meeting Harry Where He Lives," and is a great application of the book.
One chapter stands out as particularly helpful - the chapter on living with an unchurched spouse. Strobel understands this well because his wife came to Christ many years before he did. His insights are valuable as he shares the sense of loss and disorientation that an unchurched spouse goes through when their mate becomes a Christian. Christians may think that the unchurched spouse is merely hostile or hard-hearted, but in fact, the unchurched spouse may be feeling a great sense of loss as his or her mate's affections for him are transferred to Christ and the church.
This book is sociological, not theological. That is it's major weakness. It gives an excellent sociological analysis of the unchurched person and then it seeks to derive a ministry strategy from that sociological analysis. The problem here is that Strobel is advocating a church that is organized around the needs of the unchurched, rather than the directives of the Bible. While the pastor or religious leader needs to be sensitive to the sociological needs of the unchurched, he still must be directed by the Bible, and in this case the book falls short.
I want to be quick to point out that at no point does Strobel advocate compromising the gospel. He is merely suggesting that we change our methods or delivery systems. However, the Bible not only tells us what the message is, it gives us directions for our methods also.
Overall, a very helpful book. Just make sure you filter the sociological through the theological and let the theological take pre-eminence.

Low Carbing Among Friends - Vol. 5

I have all 5 of the cookbooks in this series. I love each one of them. There are some improvements with the indexing and compilation of recipes in Vols. 4 and 5, but the recipes in all of the cooksbooks are top-notch in my book. I am constantly referring to these cookbooks over most others that I have. Everything is covered in these cookbooks-- appetizers, breakfast, snacks, dinner, dessert, breads, soups, you name it and it's most likely in these cookbooks. The recipes are tried and tested with nutritional information provided. The pictures included in Vols. 4 and 5 are a bonus and a welcome addition.
