Among the Best Mormon Literature

If you're a Mormon who wasn't converted in the last couple of years, you probably already have this book. If you're a new convert, you definitely need this book, and all the others in the series. Quibble to Deseret Book: an ebook should not cost anywhere near what a hardcover or even a paperback costs, because you don't have to purchase paper and ink, pay a printer, pay storage, pay delivery, and all the other overhead expenses that have driven tree books into extremely high prices.

This is not an easy book to read. The author was a scholar. But it's a book that should be in the library of all Mormons, and they should actually READ it instead of putting it in the ebook reader and never looking at it again. Ideally it should come last, after you have read the rest of the series, but you can get a lot of it as a stand-alone book. I wish I'd had it when I was investigating the Church.

If you're not a Mormon, you still should read this book, and the rest of the series, to understand what we REALLY believe. I remember a friend giving me a handout her church gave her with a list of terrible things the Mormons did. I went through the list carefully, determined that half of the things on the list were untrue, a quarter were true but taken so far out of context they didn't mean what they were said to mean, and the fourth quarter fell under the heading of, "So it's true, and so what?" For example, why does anyone consider it important that Eliza R. Snow was married first to Joseph Smith and later to Brigham Young? She was an intelligent, capable, woman, and everybody already knew that Brigham Young had many wives, so what difference does it make that Eliza Snow was one of them.

So I think this should be part of everybody's library, for everybody who wants to know the truth instead of swallowing what he or she is being spoonfed by some ill-informed person.

What a great book it tells of the millennium and what will happen. McConkie tells it like it is going to happen. We should all read it and get the message of the time the Savior will reign on the earth. Love the book Thanks to amazon for giving me the books I need. Lela

This is one of the most informative books I've read about Jesus Christ. The entire series is not only informative but inspiring. I highly recommend the Messiah series by Bruce R. McConkie.

In this volume, Milnor considers how the fragments of textual graffiti which survive on the walls of the Roman city of Pompeii reflect and refract the literary world from which they emerged. Focusing in particular on the writings which either refer to or quote canonical authors directly, Milnor uncovers the influence— in diction, style, or structure—of elite Latin literature as the Pompeian graffiti show significant connections with familiar authors such as Ovid,
Propertius, and Virgil.

While previous scholarship has described these fragments as popular distortions of well-known texts, Milnor argues that they are important cultural products in their own right, since they are able to give us insight into how ordinary Romans responded to and sometimes rewrote works of canonical literature. Additionally, since graffiti are at once textual and material artefacts, they give us the opportunity to see how such writings gave meaning to, and were given meaning by, the ancient urban
environment.

Ultimately, the volume looks in detail at the role and nature of 'popular' literature in the early Roman Empire and the place of poetry in the Pompeian cityscape.

About the Author

Kristina Milnor is Professor and Chair of Classics and Ancient Studies at Barnard College where she has taught since 1998. Just sex for sex sake-plot is thin

I found this to be porn with little plot. I found myself skimming the sex to try and find plot. I just couldn't get into the characters, there wasn't enough there.
She's written extensively as Jordan Silver. If suggest you find one of her stories (I.e. The Lyon series) and enjoy those.
