Holly H. Miller is the founding partner of Stone House Consulting, LLC, providing strategic, operational and IT consulting services to investment managers and hedge funds. She has also managed operations teams for Bank Julius Baer, J.&W. Seligman and Citigroup. The Top Ten Operational Risks

Don't be fooled by the title which indicates these witty essays are only for investment management and hedge fund professionals. The concise, invaluable wisdom imparted in nutshell fashion is vital for anyone managing any business, including the business of life. This book was a wake-up call for me. I realized how vulnerable I was in business and personal ventures, tending to focus on completing projects and neglecting to manage incremental risk, which can add up to disaster. Miller & Lawton's book explains exactly where risk lies and, more importantly, how to minimize it. The book directs examples to specifics of investment management and hedge funds but the insights provided can (and should) be applied to any endeavor. Miller and Lawton make it fun to learn how to play it safe and still win big.

I may have had the wrong expectations or maybe my prior knowledge of this topic was greater than I realized. If you dont have prior knowledge of the operational risks then I guess it would be a 5 star.

About the Author
Dr. Smith has over 40 years of experience in engineering and construction. He served as co-chair on three international conferences on energy use management and has published over 100 technical papers and articles. In addition, he is the author, editor, or co-author of a number of books. Efficient Electricity Use, (2nd Ed.) Pergamon Press, Oxford, England, 1977, was named “outstanding academic book of the year” by the American Library Association’s Choice magazine; it was followed by Energy Management Principles, Pergamon Press, Oxford, England, 1981; How the Great Pyramid Was Built, Smithsonian Institution Press, Washington, D.C., 2004, and Extreme Waves, Joseph Henry Press, Washington D.C., 2006. In addition, he has contributed several chapters to the CRC energy handbook, Economics of Solar Energy and Conservation Systems, 1980, and then subsequent editions of this book in 1997 (now titled The Handbook of Energy Efficiency), the next edition of the CRC Handbook of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Taylor and Francis, London, 2007, and the latest version, due out in fall 2015. He has a B.S in electrical engineering from Stanford University and a M.S and Ph.D. in engineering from UCLA.

Dr. Parmenter has over 20 years’ experience in the energy sector as an energy consultant and project manager. She is currently a Principal Project Manager for Applied Energy Group’s Program Evaluation and Load Analysis practice area where she manages program evaluations for utility clients, including analyzing savings for energy efficiency and demand response projects. Previously, she led the Engineering Services team, providing energy audits at commercial and industrial facilities and delivering a wide range of technical support to utility clients. Throughout her energy career she has carried out numerous projects that involve identifying, assessing, and furthering the development of emerging technologies and solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce adverse environmental impacts. Dr. Parmenter is a Certified Energy Manager and holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She has authored over 100 energy-related reports and articles for various clients on numerous subjects.

This workbook is really great. It explains how to combine prefixes, suffixes and root words in the medical language in simple terms. If you have never ever had Anatomy and Physiology, this is the book for you. Even if you are going to take the A & P course, this would help you somewhat. The book keeps repeating what you have learned in different ways to reinforce your knowledge. The CD is good too. Really pretty easy but it's a fun tool. I only found 1 mistake in the CD so far, but I have only been through it for the first few chapters. I didn't need the rest because the book was so good. Have fun with it.

I used this book to prepare for the Certified Medical Transcriptionist exam. It is well-organized and makes the study of body systems very, very easy. It gives you several ways to learn the same information--pictures, words, having you write out answers in different ways. Heavy on prefixes and suffixes, which makes it easier to figure out unknown medical terms. I found the book a fabulous guide---and I passed my test, too! :D

He uses factors related to the oxidation-reduction potential at the site where the consorm is active and the viscosity of the bound water within that consorm to position their community structures within a two-dimensional bacteriological positioning system (BPS) that then allows the functional role to be defined. This book has an overarching ability to define bacterial activities as consorms in a very effective and applied manner useful to an applied audience involved in bacterial challenges.

Organized for ease of use, the book allows readers to start with the symptom, uncover the bacterial activities, and then indentify the communities distinctly enough to allow management and control practices that minimize the damage. The broad spectrum approach, new to this edition, lumps compatible bacteria together into a relatively harmonious consortia that share a common primary purpose. It gives a big picture view of the role of bacteria not as single strains but collectively as communities and uses this information to provide key answers to common bacterial problems.

I read this book to help me understand a phase in my life I may one day have to cope with. We each have our own way of dealing, however it's helpful to understand someone else's journey. What I found was writing that was humerus honest, and insightful only to reveal an underlying love story. The truth is that try as we may to move on, we are surrounded with the history and remnants of a life we continue to hold close.

Finally some good writing by JKR and Harry Backstory!

If you're a Harry Potter fan like I am (or maybe even less than the completely obsessive one like me!), you'll love Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship, and Dangerous Hobbies. While it is short (by far the only negative!), it does provide some great backstory to the wizarding world! You start off with McGonagall, progress to Lupin, the Trelawney, and then Kettleburn (Hagrid's COMC predecessor). McGonagall and Lupin's stories are the most flushed out, as you would expect. These two are much more a part of Harry's story. However it is nice to hear snippets of information from all different areas. Again, though, this is short. It only took about an hour and a half for me to read it (with interruptions!), so it's a little disappointing in that aspect. When these were announced I was really hoping for something of much more length.

The biggest plus for me is that you can hear JKR's voice so clearly through the entire thing. It's nothing like Cursed Child. This book (and I'm hoping the other two!) just ooze Rowling's writing style, creativity, attention to detail, and love of the wizarding world. This is so refreshing after CC. I cannot wait to read the other two! I will say that some of this information has been available either on Pottermore (which I don't get to that often) or from other interviews, but it's nice to have it all together and on my kindle. My biggest hope for this is that they'll put these into print, either compiled together or with added information so I can add it to my HP collection!

Secret history of some of the wizardi world's heroes

I enjoyed reading histories of Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupine and Sybill Trelawney and learning more about their backgrounds and in Lupine's case, affliction. This novella kept my attention and I found myself wishing it was longer. I'm sure J. K. Rowling has many more tales that never made it to the Harry Potter books, and I hope she continues publishing them.

Rowling also gives us a peek behind the closed curtains of Sybill Trelawney’s life, and you’ll encounter the reckless, magical beast – loving Silvanus Kettleburn along the way.
I recommend this to anyone a fan of the Harry Potter Series.
I enjoyed reading about so many of the teachers in this book. From the gifted witch, stern professor, lifelong Quidditch enthusiast and occasional tabby cat, Minerva McGonagall. Learning about the study of werewolves also intrigued me. “Professor Marlowe Forfang, undertook the first comprehensive study of their habits. He found that nearly all those he managed to study and question had been wizards before being bitten. He also learned from the werevolves that Muggles ‘taste’ different to wizards and they they are much more likely to die of their wounds, whereas witches and wizards survive to become werewolves.” Lastly I loved this quote “Kettleburn retired to Hogsmeade but was unable, due to his physical infirmities, to take part in the Battle of Hogwarts. Determined to play his part, he clambered into his attic and threw his entire stock of Flobberworms out of the skylight at passing Death Eaters. While this may not have had much effort on the outcome of the battle, it was generally felt to show the right spirit.
