About the Author

Sarah S. Long, MD, FAAP is Section Chief of Infectious Diseases at St. Christopher s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Long is also Professor of Pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine.

Dr. Long is an associate editor of The Journal of Pediatrics and is the chief editor of the textbook Principles and Practice of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. She has received numerous teaching awards, the Distinguished Service Award of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, the Clinical Teacher Award of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Award for Lifetime Contribution to Infectious Diseases Education by the Section on Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Long completed her medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and her residency and fellowship at St. Christopher s Hospital for Children. She is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious disease, and her principal areas of research are vaccine-preventable diseases and management of common infectious diseases in children. She sits on advisory committees for the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This version of Dr. Longs textbook has expanded in size including more information and more topics. I find the print a little small for my comfort but given the size of the book I'm sure that was necessary. For a pediatric ID reference this is a top choice

Exellent!!

I am in eighth grade and we just read this book. It is very good, and I enjoy how it depicts the Russian Revolution. It is neat how each of the animals represents a real character from history. It is a wonderful way to put the concept of the Russian Revolution into perspective and make it easy to understand, far better than reading a history book could. The person who said "not a great choice" must have not understood the book correctly, or perhaps the concept was beyond her understanding, because only then could I see how one could not enjoy it. Definatly, if you read this book, you should wait until and LEAST eighth grade, preferably tenth, or you probably wont enjoy it. I read it in sixth grade and hated it, and then again in eighth grade and thought that it was exellent!

Not a Great Choice

The book was a little differnent than what I was expecting. I mean who thinks that animals will actually take over things. The book was a little too bizarre for that subject. Orwell also tried to act as if it were a revolution like the Russain Revolution. I was totally lost personally! I thought that it was a horrible book. No wonder high schoolers hate reading!

James Luther Mays is Cyrus M. McCormick Professor Emeritus of Hebrew and Old Testament Interpretation at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He was the general editor of the best-selling Interpretation: A Bible Commentary for Teaching and Preaching series, and is author of many books, including Psalms in the Interpretation series and The Lord Reigns: A Theological Handbook to the Psalms.

Mays' thesis subsumes the "centers" postulated by competing theories

Mays' thesis is that the root metaphor of Psalms is the proclamation "the LORD reigns."

Prior to reading his book, I was skeptical about that idea, but now I can see his argument has more justification than I had originally thought.

A good case can be made that Mays' thesis subsumes the "centers" postulated by competing theories. For example, "torah" as root metaphor can be related to "the LORD reigns" through the observation that the torah in question is not that of Moses but of David which serves to "teach" God's people that "the LORD reigns."

The subordination of other central metaphors is even more apparent. Since the Israelite kings reigned as God's regents, the notion of the "messiah" as the center is easily related to "the LORD reigns."

Bruggemann's theory on the progression from orientation to disorientation to reorientation can also be viewed as the application of Mays' thesis to the vicissitudes of Israelite experiences.

Wisdom psalms extend the notion of "the LORD reigns" beyond God's elect to every nation on earth through the language of creation theology. Other subcategories of Psalms such as creation hymns, hymns of Zion, royal psalms, etc. also have obvious affinities to "the LORD reigns."

Mays offers other valuable insights apart from his treatment of the root metaphor behind the Psalms. I particularly like (1) his listing of dissonances between our culture and the world of ancient Israel on pages 9 and 70, (2) his observations on the imprecatory psalms on page 38, (3) his explanation for the absence of lament in modern worship on page 48, and (4) his interpretation of Ps 100 in chapter 8.

About the Author
Wayne K. Hoy, former chair of the department of educational administration, associate dean of academic affairs, and distinguished professor at Rutgers University, is now the Novice Fawcett Chair in Educational Administration at The Ohio State University. Professor Hoy received his B. A. from Lock Haven State College in 1959 and his D. Ed. from The Pennsylvania State University in 1965. His primary research interests are theory and research in administration, the sociology of organizations, and the social psychology of administration. In 1973, he received the Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching from Rutgers University; in 1987, he was given the Alumni Award for Professional Research from the Graduate School of Education; in 1991, he received the Excellence in Education Award from The Pennsylvania State University; and in 1992, he was given the Meritorious Research Award from the Eastern Educational Research Association. He is past secretary-treasurer of the National Conference of Professors of Educational Administration (NCPEA) and is past president of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA). He currently serves on the editorial boards of the Educational Administration Quarterly, Journal of Educational Administration, the McGill Journal of Education, and the Journal of Research and Development in Education. Professor Hoy is coauthor with Professors D. J. Willower and T. L. Eidell of The School and Pupil Control Ideology (1967), with Patrick Forsyth of Effective Supervision: Theory into Practice (1986), and with John Tarter and Robert Kottkamp, Open Schools-Healthy Schools: Measuring Organizational Climate (1991). He has been described by the Australian Institute of Educational Administration as one of "the world's most widely read authors in the field of Educational Administration." Professor Hoy has written more than a hundred books, articles, chapters, and papers. His most recent books are Administrators Solving the Problems of Practice, (Allyn & Bacon, 1995) with C. J. Tarter; The Road to Open and Healthy Schools (Corwin, 1997) with C. J. Tarter; Quality Middle Schools (Corwin, 1998) with Dennis Sabo.

Since October 1988, Cecil G. Miskel has been dean of and a professor in the School of Education at the University of Michigan. He served the University of Utah as a professor and chairperson of the Department of Educational Administration from 1982 to 1983 and dean of the Graduate School of Education from 1983 to 1988. He holds a doctor of education degree from Oklahoma State University. In addition, to being a co-author of the five editions of Education Administration, he has published widely in a variety of scholarly journals.

Wonderful comprehensive text for anyone teaching a course in organizational theory or educational administration. Easy to read, great for grad students who are studying for comprehensive exams in educational leadership or educational administration. Hoy and Miskel have created a wonderfully thorough 8th edition that incorporates current research, Seminole works, and clear definitions to help anyone understand the field better. Also, Hoy's website offers many incredible tools to assist instructors and students with research instruments, powerpoints, articles, quizzes, and even a cookbook!

Brian L. Smith has worked since 1997 as a CAD manager and animation specialist in architectural, engineering, and landscaping firms. Since 2001, he has led his own company specializing in the production of architectural animations and renderings in 3ds max. He is the cofounder of 3DAS and CGschool, where he teaches. Great Resource For New Users or Long Time Users

I got this book about a month ago and it has been a great help. I was looking for a book that went into depth on setting up scenes for Architectural Renderings and this book has delivered. For me the best information was in the vegetation section, I have learned a ton of quick ways to create full landscapes around my buildings that are not only fast and easy but look great when rendered.

We design our buildings on Revit so I haven't really used any of the building generation tutorials at all but I am sure that they are just as good.

The only bad thing that I will say about this book is that it does require you to be somewhat familiar with working in 3ds Max. There were a couple things that I struggled with when trying to implement their techniques, most of the tutorial scenes are prepared for you a little too much and they don't go over some of the basics even though they may not be self explanatory.

The only other thing is that some of the techniques don't work well with Mental Ray (possibly other rendering engines like v ray as well) due to a change in how light works. One that stumped me for a long time was using 4 opposing lights to illuminate criss cross vegitation, the mr sun was much too bright and overpowered my fill lights. I was almost pulling my hair out when I found someone else with the same problem through google and as soon as I knew the cause I was able to fix it properly.

This is one of the best 3d modeling books I have ever bought. It is very in depth and has a huge amount of real world experience informing it. If you are looking at 3d visualization for your skill set this is the book for you.

Garfield is Doris Silbert Professor in the Humanities and Professor of Philosophy at Smith College, Professor in the Graduate Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts, Professor of Philosophy at Melbourne University, and Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at the Central University of Tibetan Studies.

Thomas Tymoczko was, until his death, Professor of Philosophy at Smith College. He was editor of New Directions in the Philosophy of Mathematics.

Absolutely wonderful

This is, technically, an edited version of the first edition. However, it is a radical change from the original, fixing all of the first edition's problems. It is always clear, always helpful, and always entertaining. Even if I had missed class and had an assignment to do, all I had to do was read the chapter thoroughly and it made sense. My professors told us that in case they didn't make sense, to simply turn to the book. And it worked. When I was in doubt, this book was my lifeline. I cannot explain how much I love this book.
However, if you are not a person who enjoys being challenged and enjoys having to mull a problem over in your head, you should never take a class that uses this book. This book was designed to encourage logical thinking - which it does. This book (and the course that used it) entirely changed the way I think. I see the world differently now - logically.

very thick and useful

This is the required text book of my college so I bought it along with some other logic books. Surprised to see that this one is amazingly good!!!!
It is a combination of traditional symbolic logic and cutting edge topics in the area. I love the style of humor in the book, and the thought-provoking
paradox as well!
Best of its kind~ definitely recommend~!

How to Survive (& Thrive) in a Call Centre is a practical and empowering guide to getting the most out of any call centre experience. It is full of helpful hints and sound advice for both sales and customer service centric roles. This book offers the reader a host of to-dos (and what not to dos) in order to succeed in a call centre environment and I believe it would benefit everyone, from those just starting out in a call centre role (its covers the very basics) to those who are looking to forge a career in the industry (it outlines career paths and offers a manager's perspective on what it takes to get promoted).

I found the writing clear and concise and the advice very practical. There aren't a lot of call centre specific books out there yet How to Survive definitely holds its own in the career guide genre. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase of this book and I have recommended it to all my colleagues.

The company line from a call centre true believer

I was expecting a more personal account of how to cope with working in a call centre and maybe some unique insights. This is more of a guide for someone just starting out in workforce, who really knows very little about any sort of job. It sets out the basics of a call centre and would be useful to a new starter. I was disappointed as it didn't really meet my expectations. From the title,I was hoping for some empathy and humor, instead it's really just a manual.
